– Scripture:

‘No prolonged infancies among us, please. We’ll not tolerate babes in the woods, small children who are easy prey for predators. God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love. ‘

Ephesians 4:14 MSG

– Reflection:

In high school, I used to wonder what it would be like to be an adult. Now that I am one, I often ponder what it truly means to be a “real adult.” I envision a moment when I will finally feel like a grown-up, perhaps when I host a holiday cookout or handle car issues without immediately turning to my dad for help. Similarly, I sometimes expect to wake up one day as a “mature Christian,” effortlessly engaging in spiritual practices such as consistent Bible reading, regular prayer, and serving others diligently. However, the verses in Ephesians remind me that spiritual growth requires patience, persistence, reflection, and community.

Where do we go from here?

As a community of new believers, we support each other by being honest and hospitable, speaking the truth in love. We connect with other Christians, recognizing and encouraging their talents to serve the church. Most importantly, we strive to grow closer to Christ, keeping our focus on him. Just like my house plant reaches towards the patch of light on the table, our faith journey brings us closer to Christ, the light of the world.

Our Prayer for Today

Father, we are grateful that you delight in us. Bind us together with one another as we seek to grow together in love. Remind us to focus our eyes on you, the author and finisher of our faith. May we speak with compassion and truth today. Amen.
