Scripture:
‘My dear friends, if you know people who have wandered off from God’s truth, don’t write them off. Go after them. Get them back and you will have rescued precious lives from destruction and prevented an epidemic of wandering away from God.’
James 5:19 MSG
Reflection:
Prayer To Be Reckoned With
James concludes his impactful and challenging letter to the dispersed and persecuted Jewish Christians by urging them to zealously reach out to those who have strayed from the faith. He emphasizes the importance of praying for those who have wandered from the faith and gently guiding them back to the Lord. When we intercede for each other, it creates opportunities for restoration. It may take some time to gather your thoughts and comprehend the notion that there is someone greater and more capable than yourself who can assist you in life and ensure that you fulfill your intended purpose.
Where do we go from here?
While seeking to follow and obey God, where do you notice evidence of Satan’s influence and interference? Where do you see God’s protection and joy during challenging circumstances? As we earnestly seek God, we can confidently ask Him to restore a believer who has strayed, seek His wisdom and selfless love, ask for His help in controlling our speech, and pray for increased faith to trust Him during times of suffering patiently.
Our Prayer for Today
Father, Thank you for your grace, mercy, and righteousness, made possible through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Please help us to be obedient to your Word. Protect us from discouragement and doubt when we face hardships. Remind us of the privilege and power of prayer. Let our thoughts, words, attitudes, and behavior reflect your love in action to a dark and broken world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
