– Scripture:
Truly Free
Jesus said, “I tell you most solemnly that anyone who chooses a life of sin is trapped in a dead-end life and is, in fact, a slave. A slave is a transient who can’t come and go at will. The Son, though, has an established position, the run of the house. So if the Son sets you free, you are free through and through. I know you are Abraham’s descendants. But I also know that you are trying to kill me because my message hasn’t yet penetrated your thick skulls. I’m talking about things I have seen while keeping company with the Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.”
John 8:34–38 MSG
– Reflection:
When we’ve struggled in an area for a long time, it’s easy to accept that it’s permanent. We prayed, we stood in faith, but nothing changed. Now we think we’ll always have the sickness, always struggle with our finances, depression, or anxiety. Maybe we’ve tried to forgive someone who hurt us, but we’re still angry. We’re functioning and making it, but it’s restricting our joy and limiting our growth.
Where do we go from here?
You were not created to be bound by anything. Jesus came to make you unquestionably free. The things that are hindering you, that are keeping you from your potential, are not permanent. That sickness is not how your story ends. You don’t have to live with the depression or the addiction. God is about to do something new in your life. You’re coming into a shift, a breakthrough. Yes, there are seasons we have to endure and fight the good fight of faith, but there comes a time when God says, “Enough is enough. Now I’m going to step in and free you. Not partially free, not a little better, but unquestionably free.”
Our Prayer for Today
Father, thank You that when Christ defeated death on the cross, He broke the power of every negative thing that was trying to hold us back. Thank You that we are unquestionably free and the chains are falling off. We believe and declare that we are free indeed. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
