– Scripture:
Proving Seasons
So David moved to Hebron, along with his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal of Carmel. David’s men, along with their families, also went with him and made their home in and around Hebron. The citizens of Judah came to Hebron and then, and there, made David king over the clans of Judah.
2 Samuel 2:2–4 MSG
– Reflection:
The scripture above is about David being crowned King of the clans of Judah after King Saul’s death. If we remember earlier, when David was a young man. I think he was seventeen or something like that. Samuel anointed him King at this time, but he didn’t take the throne until after King Saul’s death. This means during the time Saul ruled, David had to continue working in the fields of his father’s house. He is still being picked on by his brothers. He defeated Goliath during this time as well. He was proving to himself and everyone else that he was going to be great as king. He didn’t have to prove anything to GOD because he was the one who sent Samuel to anoint him in the first place. He proved through all those seasons of life and the trials that he went through that he was the man for the job. He proved to himself time and time again that he was worthy of the title of king that GOD had given him so long ago.
Where do we go from here?
Just because you have been given the appointment or the anointing, you haven’t been appointed yet, so there will be some proving that must happen to ensure that you really are who you say you are. This happens a lot in our lives, where we know that we are great at something, but everyone else doubts us. Well, I am here to tell you that if GOD has placed it in your heart and mind, you are one of those that he has chosen to do this for him and the kingdom. So once you prove that you can do what is asked for a small group, there will be a time when the group will be bigger, and then bigger still, until you have proved to enough people that you truly are who GOD says you are. It will be tough anything worth doing always is. Remember though, GOD has your back, and soon, the people you are to guide will have it too.
Our Prayer for Today
Father, I come to you today with my head bowed and hands raised, asking for your help in blessing those who are in the proving stages to not lose their strength and mite that you have given them up to this point. We don’t know how much longer the proving grounds will be on us but allow us more strength to get through what it is that we need to complete our tasks for the kingdom. It is with great honor that I can immediately say Thank you, Jesus, for saving our lives. Amen.
