– Scripture:
But I’m worshiping you, GOD, calling out in thanksgiving! And I’ll do what I promised I’d do! Salvation belongs to GOD!” Then GOD spoke to the fish, and it vomited up Jonah on the seashore.
Jonah 2:9–10 MSG
– Reflection:
At The Bottom of The Sea
The prophet Jonah was inside the giant fish that God sent to spare his life after he disobeyed God’s command. One can only imagine the unbearable stench inside the fish’s digestive system. For eight verses, Jonah lamented about how bad his life was, expressing his deep despair and feeling trapped without a way out. While his feelings were valid, they didn’t change his situation. Then, amidst the unpleasantness and challenges, he unexpectedly offered a sacrifice of praise and surrender. This act prompted God to intervene, leading to the fish releasing Jonah back onto the dry ground so he could fulfill his destiny.
Where do we go from here?
You may be in a stinky situation today. You could describe what you’ve done wrong, how you aren’t treated right, or how you’re not getting well. But that creates an atmosphere of doubt, defeat, and negativity that keeps you where you are. Be a Jonah and send up a shout of praise. Send up faith. Send up hope. You’re about to see that negative situation turn around.
Our Prayer for Today
Father, thank You for Your mercy when we make mistakes and bring trouble upon ourselves, just like Jonah did. You always give us second chances. Today, we will offer a shout of grateful praise and declare You as our Lord and Savior. We trust that You will guide us to where we are meant to be. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
