Don’t Wait For Tomorrow; Be Better Today

– Todays Community Scripture – 12/31/2024

And now I have a word for you who brashly announce, “Today—at the latest, tomorrow—we’re off to such and such a city for the year. We’re going to start a business and make a lot of money.” You don’t know the first thing about tomorrow. You’re nothing but a wisp of fog, catching a brief bit of sun before disappearing. Instead, make it a habit to say, “If the Master wills it and we’re still alive, we’ll do this or that.” As it is, you are full of your grandiose selves. All such vaunting self-importance is evil. In fact, if you know the right thing to do and don’t do it, that, for you, is evil.

James 4:13–17 (MSG)

– Reflection:

Don’t Wait For Tomorrow; Be Better Today

Many of us often take our health, wealth, and talents for granted. Life has a way of humbling us if we ignore the finer details. I’ve realized that working from home has weakened my immune system, making me more susceptible to colds and flu than those who are out in the world daily. I realized this when some friends invited me to an outreach center I’ve frequented over the years. After attending, by Christmas evening, I found myself unwell. Despite my attempts to convince myself it would pass by the next day, the flu had a firm grip on me. Interestingly, the person at the outreach center who transmitted it didn’t even seem sick; my immune system simply had no defense. Although this experience doesn’t make me want to venture out more, I must prepare for what I might encounter when I do go out.

– Where do we go from here?

We must prepare our hearts daily to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. If not, you could be walking into sickness or fighting for your finances or talents. Start small with a devotional like this one or another. Just get the word into your spirit. I have seen too much not to believe He is real. The best lie ever told by the devil was that He didn’t exist. If you believe that, then you are who I am speaking to this morning.

– Our Prayer for Today

Father, thank you for allowing us to honor you with the presence you prepared in us. It is an honor to get up and walk with you each morning and do the work that is needed of me. Allow our service to help others see the strength you provide us so they want to have it, too. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
