The Way He Wants You To Live

The Way He Wants You To Live

– Today’s Community Scripture – 10/16/2025

And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love! Get along among yourselves, each of you doing your part. Our counsel is that you warn the freeloaders to get a move on. Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet. Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs. And be careful that when you get on each other’s nerves you don’t snap at each other. Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out. Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live. Don’t suppress the Spirit, and don’t stifle those who have a word from the Master. On the other hand, don’t be gullible. Check out everything, and keep only what’s good. Throw out anything tainted with evil. May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it! Friends, keep up your prayers for us. Greet all the followers of Jesus there with a holy embrace. And make sure this letter gets read to all the brothers and sisters. Don’t leave anyone out. The amazing grace of Jesus Christ be with you!

1 Thessalonians 5:12–28 (MSG)

– Reflection:

Paul’s words to the Thessalonians are just as relevant today as they were then. In a world full of stress, division, and uncertainty, this passage calls us to a different way of living one marked by gratitude, unity, and hope. We are reminded to honor those who lead us spiritually, not just with words but with genuine appreciation and love. We are encouraged to live in harmony, support those who are struggling, and uplift the weary. This isn’t just about being “nice”; it’s about intentionally showing Christ’s love through practical actions.

How to Live This Out Today
1. Honor and Appreciate – Send a message or call someone who has guided you spiritually. Let them know they matter.
2. Encourage Someone – Look for someone who seems tired or discouraged and offer a word of hope or practical help.
3. Practice Gratitude – Write down three things you’re thankful for today, even if life feels hard.
4. Stay Prayerful – Whisper short prayers throughout the day: “Thank You, Lord,” “Guide me,” “Help me love well.”
5. Discern Wisely – Before accepting advice or opinions, measure them against God’s Word. Hold on to what is good.

– Where do we go from here?

From this passage, we learn that moving forward means living in a way that reflects Christ’s love and order. First, honor and appreciate those who lead and guide us in faith—they work hard for our spiritual growth. Second, commit to unity: do your part, encourage those who struggle, help the weary, and be patient with everyone. Avoid snapping at each other; instead, look for the best in people and bring it out. Stay joyful no matter what, pray continually, and give thanks in every circumstance. This is God’s will for us. Keep your heart open to the Spirit and to God’s truth, but test everything and hold on to what is good. Reject anything evil. Trust that God Himself will make you holy and whole as you stay faithful. In short, live with gratitude, encouragement, discernment, and hope, knowing that the One who called you is faithful and will finish His work in you.

One-Liner Challenge –

Encourage Someone – Send a DM or text to a friend who might be struggling. Lift them up!

– Our Prayer for Today

Father, help us live with joy, gratitude, and discernment today. Teach us to encourage others, honor those who lead, and stay open to Your Spirit. Make us holy and whole as we trust Your faithfulness. Amen.

The Master’s Coming

The Master’s Coming

– Today’s Community Scripture – 10/15/2025

And regarding the question, friends, that has come up about what happens to those already dead and buried, we don’t want you in the dark any longer. First off, you must not carry on over them like people who have nothing to look forward to, as if the grave were the last word. Since Jesus died and broke loose from the grave, God will most certainly bring back to life those who died in Jesus. And then this: We can tell you with complete confidence—we have the Master’s word on it—that when the Master comes again to get us, those of us who are still alive will not get a jump on the dead and leave them behind. In actual fact, they’ll be ahead of us. The Master himself will give the command. Archangel thunder! God’s trumpet blast! He’ll come down from heaven and the dead in Christ will rise—they’ll go first.
Then the rest of us who are still alive at the time will be caught up with them into the clouds to meet the Master. Oh, we’ll be walking on air! And then there will be one huge family reunion with the Master. So reassure one another with these words. I don’t think, friends, that I need to deal with the question of when all this is going to happen. You know as well as I that the day of the Master’s coming can’t be posted on our calendars. He won’t call ahead and make an appointment any more than a burglar would. About the time everybody’s walking around complacently, congratulating each other—“We’ve sure got it made! Now we can take it easy!”—suddenly everything will fall apart. It’s going to come as suddenly and inescapably as birth pangs to a pregnant woman. But friends, you’re not in the dark, so how could you be taken off guard by any of this? You’re sons of Light, daughters of Day. We live under wide open skies and know where we stand. So let’s not sleepwalk through life like those others. Let’s keep our eyes open and be smart. People sleep at night and get drunk at night. But not us! Since we’re creatures of Day, let’s act like it. Walk out into the daylight sober, dressed up in faith, love, and the hope of salvation. God didn’t set us up for an angry rejection but for salvation by our Master, Jesus Christ. He died for us, a death that triggered life. Whether we’re awake with the living or asleep with the dead, we’re alive with him! So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it.

1 Thessalonians 4:13–5:11 (MSG)

– Reflection:

This passage reminds us that life and hope do not end at the grave. Paul is addressing a deep human fear, the uncertainty of death, and reframing it through the lens of Christ’s resurrection. His message is clear: because Jesus conquered death, those who belong to Him share in that victory. The imagery of the Master’s return, with trumpet blasts and a great reunion, is not meant to spark fear or speculation about timing but to anchor us in hope and readiness. The warning about complacency speaks powerfully to today’s world, where comfort and security can lull us into spiritual sleep. Paul calls us to live as “children of the day” alert, sober, clothed in faith, love, and hope. This means living with purpose, encouraging one another, and building each other up, knowing that whether alive or dead, we belong to Christ. The passage is less about predicting the future and more about shaping how we walk today—with courage, clarity, and community.

– Where do we go from here?

We are called to live with intentionality and purpose. The future promise of Christ’s return is not a reason to speculate or withdraw from life; it’s a reason to engage life with clarity and hope. Our next step is to embrace our identity as “children of the day,” which means living transparently, faithfully, and courageously in a world that often drifts toward complacency. Practically, this looks like staying spiritually awake, cultivating habits of prayer, immersing ourselves in Scripture, and practicing love in tangible ways. It means encouraging one another, speaking life and hope into our communities, and resisting the temptation to live as if this world is all there is. We prepare not by predicting dates but by walking daily in faith, love, and the hope of salvation. In short, we move forward by living ready, not fearful, but prepared so that whenever the Master comes, we are found awake and aligned with His purpose.

One-Liner Challenge –

Live wide awake faith, love, and hope are your armor for a world that wants you to sleep.

– Our Prayer for Today

Father, thank You for the hope we have because You conquered death and gave us life. Help us to live as children of the day, awake, alert, and ready for Your return. Teach us to walk in faith, show love to others, and hold on to hope. Keep us from fear and complacency, and fill us with courage to encourage and build up those around us. Today, let our words and actions honor You and continue the work of faith that began long ago. We trust You and look forward to the day we will be with You forever. Amen.

You’re GOD-Taught

You’re GOD-Taught

– Today’s Community Scripture – 10/14/2025

One final word, friends. We ask you—urge is more like it—that you keep on doing what we told you to do to please God, not in a dogged religious plod, but in a living, spirited dance. You know the guidelines we laid out for you from the Master Jesus. God wants you to live a pure life. Keep yourselves from sexual promiscuity. Learn to appreciate and give dignity to your body, not abusing it, as is so common among those who know nothing of God. Don’t run roughshod over the concerns of your brothers and sisters. Their concerns are God’s concerns, and he will take care of them. We’ve warned you about this before. God hasn’t invited us into a disorderly, unkempt life but into something holy and beautiful—as beautiful on the inside as the outside. If you disregard this advice, you’re not offending your neighbors; you’re rejecting God, who is making you a gift of his Holy Spirit. Regarding life together and getting along with each other, you don’t need me to tell you what to do. You’re God-taught in these matters. Just love one another! You’re already good at it; your friends all over the province of Macedonia are the evidence. Keep it up; get better and better at it. Stay calm; mind your own business; do your own job. You’ve heard all this from us before, but a reminder never hurts. We want you living in a way that will command the respect of outsiders, not lying around sponging off your friends.

1 Thessalonians 4:1–12 (MSG)

– Reflection:

When I read this passage, what stands out to me is that living for GOD isn’t supposed to feel like a heavy chore. It’s not about checking boxes or looking perfect; it’s about living with joy and purpose. GOD wants us to respect ourselves, treat our bodies like they matter, and honor others in the way we live. That means avoiding things that pull us away from Him and instead choosing what’s good and life-giving. Loving people isn’t just a suggestion; it’s the core of who we’re called to be. And honestly, it’s something we can keep growing in every day. The part about staying calm, minding your own business, and working hard really hits home, too. It’s a reminder that how we live speaks louder than what we say. People notice when we live with integrity. And the best part? We’re not doing this alone. GOD gives us His Spirit to help us every step of the way.

– Where do we go from here?

God calls us to a life that reflects His beauty, not just in what people see, but in who we are inside. That means making choices that honor Him, loving others well, and living responsibly. It’s not about perfection; it’s about progress and letting His Spirit guide us.

One-Liner Challenge –

This week, let your actions speak louder than your words, show love, stay focused, and live in a way that makes others curious about your faith.

– Our Prayer for Today

Father, thank You for calling us to a life that’s full of purpose and beauty. Help us to respect ourselves, love others, and live in a way that honors You. When we feel like giving up or going our own way, remind us that Your Spirit is with us to guide and strengthen us. Amen.

No Hidden Agendas

No Hidden Agendas

– Today’s Community Scripture – 10/13/2025

God tested us thoroughly to make sure we were qualified to be trusted with this Message. Be assured that when we speak to you we’re not after crowd approval—only God approval. Since we’ve been put through that battery of tests, you’re guaranteed that both we and the Message are free of error, mixed motives, or hidden agendas. We never used words to butter you up. No one knows that better than you. And God knows we never used words as a smoke screen to take advantage of you. Even though we had some standing as Christ’s apostles, we never threw our weight around or tried to come across as important, with you or anyone else. We weren’t aloof with you. We took you just as you were. We were never patronizing, never condescending, but we cared for you the way a mother cares for her children. We loved you dearly. Not content to just pass on the Message, we wanted to give you our hearts. And we did. You remember us in those days, friends, working our fingers to the bone, up half the night, moonlighting so you wouldn’t have the burden of supporting us while we proclaimed God’s Message to you. You saw with your own eyes how discreet and courteous we were among you, with keen sensitivity to you as fellow believers. And God knows we weren’t freeloaders! You experienced it all firsthand. With each of you we were like a father with his child, holding your hand, whispering encouragement, showing you step-by-step how to live well before God, who called us into his own kingdom, into this delightful life. And now we look back on all this and thank God, an artesian well of thanks! When you got the Message of God we preached, you didn’t pass it off as just one more human opinion, but you took it to heart as God’s true word to you, which it is, God himself at work in you believers! Friends, do you realize that you followed in the exact footsteps of the churches of God in Judea, those who were the first to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ? You got the same bad treatment from your countrymen as they did from theirs, the Jews who killed the Master Jesus (to say nothing of the prophets) and followed it up by running us out of town. They make themselves offensive to God and everyone else by trying to keep us from telling people who’ve never heard of our God how to be saved. They’ve made a career of opposing God, and have gotten mighty good at it. But God is fed up, ready to put an end to it. Do you have any idea how very homesick we became for you, dear friends? Even though it hadn’t been that long and it was only our bodies that were separated from you, not our hearts, we tried our very best to get back to see you. You can’t imagine how much we missed you! I, Paul, tried over and over to get back, but Satan stymied us each time. Who do you think we’re going to be proud of when our Master Jesus appears if it’s not you? You’re our pride and joy! So when we couldn’t stand being separated from you any longer and could find no way to visit you ourselves, we stayed in Athens and sent Timothy to get you up and about, cheering you on so you wouldn’t be discouraged by these hard times. He’s a brother and companion in the faith, God’s man in spreading the Message, preaching Christ. Not that the troubles should come as any surprise to you. You’ve always known that we’re in for this kind of thing. It’s part of our calling. When we were with you, we made it quite clear that there was trouble ahead. And now that it’s happened, you know what it’s like. That’s why I couldn’t quit worrying; I had to know for myself how you were doing in the faith. I didn’t want the Tempter getting to you and tearing down everything we had built up together. But now that Timothy is back, bringing this terrific report on your faith and love, we feel a lot better. It’s especially gratifying to know that you continue to think well of us, and that you want to see us as much as we want to see you! In the middle of our trouble and hard times here, just knowing how you’re doing keeps us going. Knowing that your faith is alive keeps us alive. What would be an adequate thanksgiving to offer God for all the joy we experience before him because of you? We do what we can, praying away, night and day, asking for the bonus of seeing your faces again and doing what we can to help when your faith falters. May God our Father himself and our Master Jesus clear the road to you! And may the Master pour on the love so it fills your lives and splashes over on everyone around you, just as it does from us to you. May you be infused with strength and purity, filled with confidence in the presence of God our Father when our Master Jesus arrives with all his followers.

1 Thessalonians 2:3–3:13 (MSG)

– Reflection:

Reading this passage reminds me of the importance of authenticity and humility in leadership and communication. Paul’s words show that true influence doesn’t come from seeking approval or using flattering words, but from serving with integrity and genuine care. I’m struck by how he balances strength and tenderness, working hard to avoid being a burden while nurturing others like a parent guiding a child. His deep concern for their faith, even in hardship, challenges me to think about how I invest in people beyond just sharing information. It’s about giving not only knowledge but also heart, building trust through transparency and love. This passage encourages me to examine my own motives and ask: Am I leading with sincerity, humility, and a genuine desire to see others thrive both spiritually and personally?

– Where do we go from here?

Moving forward, our journey with Christ calls us to embody the same authenticity, humility, and love that Paul demonstrated. It involves examining our motives daily—ensuring we serve not for recognition but to please God. We must engage deeply in relationships, sharing not just words but our hearts, and supporting one another through trials. This passage reminds us that faith strengthens when we stay connected, pray regularly, and allow God’s love to flow into every interaction. So the next step is simple yet profound: commit to living openly, loving deeply, and persevering faithfully, trusting that God is shaping us for His kingdom and preparing us for Christ’s return.

– Our Prayer for Today

Father, teach us to care for others deeply, not just with words but with our hearts, and to encourage those around us in faith. Strengthen us to persevere through trials, and let Your love overflow from our lives into every relationship. Keep our faith alive and growing, and prepare us for the day when we stand confidently in Your presence. We give You thanks for the work You are doing in us and through us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Convictions of Steel

Convictions of Steel

– Today’s Community Scripture – 10/8/2025

Every time we think of you, we thank God for you. Day and night, you’re in our prayers as we call to mind your work of faith, your labor of love, and your patience of hope in following our Master, Jesus Christ, before God our Father. It is clear to us, friends, that God not only loves you very much but also has put his hand on you for something special. When the Message we preached came to you, it wasn’t just words. Something happened in you. The Holy Spirit put steel in your convictions. You paid careful attention to the way we lived among you, and determined to live that way yourselves. In imitating us, you imitated the Master. Although great trouble accompanied the Word, you were able to take great joy from the Holy Spirit!—taking the trouble with the joy, the joy with the trouble. Do you know that all over the provinces of both Macedonia and Achaia, believers look up to you? The word has gotten around. Your lives are echoing the Master’s Word, not only in the provinces but all over the place. The news of your faith in God is out. We don’t even have to say anything anymore—you’re the message! People come up and tell us how you received us with open arms, how you deserted the dead idols of your old life so you could embrace and serve God, the true God. They marvel at how expectantly you await the arrival of his Son, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescued us from certain doom. So, friends, it’s obvious that our visit to you was no waste of time. We had just been given rough treatment in Philippi, as you know, but that didn’t slow us down. We were sure of ourselves in God and went right ahead and said our piece, presenting God’s Message to you, defiant of the opposition.

                           1 Thessalonians 1:2–2:2 (MSG)

– Reflection:

Paul reminds us that the message of Jesus isn’t just words—it’s power. He says the Holy Spirit gave the people in Thessalonica steel in their convictions, meaning their faith was strong and solid, not easily broken. That kind of faith doesn’t come from just going to church or repeating what others say. It comes from letting God shape your heart, especially when life gets hard. The Thessalonians didn’t have it easy, but they still chose joy and stood firm in what they believed. That’s the kind of strength we need today—in our families, our schools, and our communities. We live in a world where values change fast and truth can feel unclear. But when our faith is real and rooted in God, it helps us make better choices, treat people with love, and stay strong when things get tough. Steel convictions mean living with purpose, not just going with the flow. It’s about being bold, being kind, and being grounded in what’s right. Let’s stand by our choices and not make decisions based on emotion. Allow the Holy Spirit to create a steel version of you.

– Where do we go from here?

It’s about how we live, especially when life gets tough. The Holy Spirit gives us steel in our convictions, meaning our beliefs are strong, unshakable, and full of courage. Today, in a world full of distractions, pressure, and uncertainty, we need that same kind of strength in our families, schools, and communities. It starts with choosing to live with purpose, standing up for what’s right, showing love even when it’s hard, and being honest even when it’s unpopular. For our youth, this means being bold in kindness, brave in truth, and consistent in faith. When we let God shape our hearts, He gives us the strength to be leaders, helpers, and peacemakers. Steel convictions don’t mean being perfect; they mean being committed. So let’s build each other up, speak life into our homes, and be the kind of people who shine with hope and strength wherever we go.

– Our Prayer for Today

Father, thank You for waking us up today with purpose and breath in our lungs. As we step into this day, we ask You to fill our hearts with the same steel conviction You gave the Thessalonians. Help us to stand strong in our faith, not just in words, but in how we live, love, and lead. In our families, let us be anchors of peace and truth. In our communities, help us be lights that shine with kindness and courage. For our youth, give them boldness to be different, to choose what’s right even when it’s hard, and to know they are never alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thessalonians Introduction – Living Today with Tomorrow in Mind

Thessalonians Introduction – Living Today with Tomorrow in Mind

– Today’s Community Scripture – 10/7/2025

Introduction –

1 & 2 Thessalonians

The way we conceive the future sculpts the present, gives contour and tone to nearly every action and thought through the day. If our sense of the future is weak, we live listlessly. Much emotional and mental illness, and most suicides, occur among men and women who feel that they “have no future.” The Christian faith has always been characterized by a strong and focused sense of the future, with belief in the Second Coming of Jesus as the most distinctive detail. From the day Jesus ascended into heaven, his followers lived in expectancy of his return. He told them he was coming back. They believed he was coming back. They continue to believe it. For Christians, it is the most important thing to know and believe about the future. The practical effect of this belief is to charge each moment of the present with hope. For if the future is dominated by the coming again of Jesus, there is little room left on the screen for projecting our anxieties and fantasies. It takes the clutter out of our lives. We’re far more free to respond spontaneously to the freedom of God.
All the same, the belief can be misconceived so that it results in paralyzing fear for some, shiftless indolence in others. Paul’s two letters to the Christians in Thessalonica, among much else, correct such debilitating misconceptions, prodding us to continue to live forward in taut and joyful expectancy for what God will do next in Jesus.

1 Thessalonians Introduction (MSG)

– Reflection:

The introduction to Thessalonians sets the tone for a message that is deeply rooted in hope, a hope not just for the future, but one that actively shapes how we live today. Paul begins by affirming the Thessalonians’ faith, love, and steadfastness, reminding them that the promise of Christ’s return fuels their present endurance. This future vision isn’t meant to distract from the present; rather, it gives meaning to it. The anticipation of Jesus’ coming encourages believers to live with purpose, integrity, and community-minded love. In this way, the future becomes a lens through which the present is clarified—calling us to live not in fear or passivity, but in active, hopeful readiness. The Thessalonians teach that what we believe about tomorrow should transform how we walk today.

When I first began my walk with Christ, I often wondered how the Bible could fit in the fast-paced, complicated world we live in today. It felt ancient, distant like something written for another time. But as I kept reading, praying, and growing, I came to realize something life-changing: the Bible isn’t just a book of history or moral lessons, it’s the roadmap for life, period. Its truths are timeless, its wisdom practical, and its guidance deeply personal. Whether we’re facing decisions, struggles, or moments of joy, the Word of God speaks directly into our circumstances. It doesn’t just tell us what happened, it shows us how to live, how to love, and how to walk in purpose today. The more I leaned into it, the more I saw that Scripture isn’t behind the times; it’s ahead of them. It shapes how we see the world, how we treat people, and how we respond to challenges. It’s not just relevant, it’s essential.

– Where do we go from here?

Just like the Thessalonians responded to Paul’s encouragement, our next step is to live out our faith with intentionality and hope. They didn’t just hear the message; they let it transform their daily lives. That means for us, we start by staying connected to God through prayer, learning from His Word, and leaning into community with other believers. We live with the awareness that Jesus is coming again, and that truth should shape how we treat others, how we make decisions, and how we handle challenges. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being faithful. Step by step, we grow, serve, and love, knowing that our present journey is part of a much bigger story God is writing.

– Our Prayer for Today

Father, thank You for the gift of Your Word. Today, as we’ve read and reflected, our hearts are full of joy and gratitude. Thank You for showing us that Your truth is alive and active, guiding us through every step of life. Help us to hold onto the hope You’ve given us, and to live each day with purpose and love. May what we’ve learned today shape how we walk, speak, and serve. We trust You, we love You, and we thank You for being with us yesterday, today, and forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
