– Scripture:
Who’s Your Source?
Mary said to the angel, “But how? I’ve never slept with a man.”
Luke 1:34 MSG
– Reflection:
In Church on Sunday, our Pastor was talking about Mary Jesus’ mother giving birth to him and imagining the shame that she probably would have gone through had Joseph not been told by the Angel to stay with her. She was going to be left by herself until GOD sent an Angel to let Joseph know that no man had physically touched her. She is still pregnant, and this is going to be a child you will raise, but at a point, I will take over. God is bigger than anything we can imagine and everywhere all at once, too. Having a father like this means you are protected from whatever the world can throw at you.
Where do we go from here?
What you’re believing for can happen without getting your manager or boss at work to like you or talking your friend into giving you a good break. You don’t need who you think you need. People are not your source; God is your source. When it’s your time, when God shows up in His power, nothing can stand in His way. Chains will break, doors will open, and opportunity will come. It can happen without a bank, without treatment, without experience, without resources, without connections. God is about to surprise you. Just as he did with Mary, it’s going to be something you’ve never seen. Something that’s never happened in your family. Something that defies the odds that catapults you into your destiny. Just stay focused on your true source.
Our Prayer for Today
Father, thank You for being our provider, the source of everything good in our lives. Thank You that we are not dependent upon other people, but it is Your favor that brings us the right people and the right connections. We will stay focused on You, knowing You make happen what no person can make happen. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Arthur Poston Jr. from Community for Digital Christians
Hello, Community,
One of my favorite things about this time of year is being able to look back. I soak in it, starting with music. I have a few songs that I listen to around this time of year because my dad used to listen to them. Nat King Cole, The Spinners, Isaac Hayes, Earth, Wind, and Fire are a few of the artists he listened to.
Next are the cherished traditions of my childhood: going to our grandma’s house and eating and just hanging out with family; the break we would get when we got out of school was so memorable because we would watch cartoons and ride our bikes all day. As we got older, we would go to the basketball courts in the neighborhood and meet up with friends to play. Still, later, we would get together and talk and catch up with one another. Now that everyone has their own families and life seems to be moving at light speed, those moments don’t happen as much anymore, and you cherish any time with those from your childhood and early adulthood.
These things connect me to the past, and spending time in memory feels good. But if the Ghost of Christmas Past visit lasts too long, the sentimentality and longing for simpler, happier times can turn sad and bitter. If I linger in memory too long, it can interfere with my ability to appreciate where I am and all the good that’s coming. (I can also forget that “simpler, happier” is often a memory trick as time passes; it’s easy to recall the good and forget the difficult.)
I must connect in this season to the future and the past to balance memory with imagination. It’s healthy for me to dream, plan, and explore hope. I’ve learned it’s good for me to begin asking myself now what I’m hoping for next year concerning my personal, family, and professional life. What will allow me to wake up with hope and passion? What will get me out of bed, excited for each day?
That imagining looks mostly like setting priorities around what I sense God calling me to and where I sense my heart is leading me: to things like prayer, physical activity and being outdoors some with our dogs, traveling and spending time with Karrie and our soon-to-be-all-upper teenage children, going deeper into a relationship with my closest friends.
But that’s not all. Memory and imagination are necessary but not sufficient. Indeed, if either the visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past or Christmas Yet to Come last too long, I could become numb to the wonder of the present moment. By focusing too much on what’s been lost to the past or too much on what might be gained in the future, I inevitably miss the blessing of what is happening right now. I miss the blessing of unexpected conversations, surprising experiences, sudden realizations, extraordinary breakthroughs new sounds, smells, and tastes.
I could miss God himself because he is always present in the present.
So, the trick for me is to make time this month for silence. One of my favorite things to do is to steal downstairs in the evening and sit for a few minutes at my desk, watching a movie or writing something. Sitting still, doing nothing, allows me to see things with fresh eyes. I’m able to notice much more of what’s going on around me and stirring in my heart. I’m able to look for God, to listen for the whisper of his voice, to sense his gentle words around my ears, to appreciate the blessings he’s bestowing, big and small.
I pray you can do that, too. I pray you can sense his presence today.
And I pray Community for Digital Christians has helped you become present in his presence this past year.

Today’s Community Scripture – 12/19/2023
– Scripture:
Bringer of Good News
The Spirit of God, the Master, is on me because God anointed me. He sent me to preach good news to the poor, heal the eartbroken, Announce freedom to all captives, pardon all prisoners. God sent me to announce the year of his grace a celebration of God’s destruction of our enemies and to comfort all who mourn, To care for the needs of all who mourn in Zion, give them bouquets of roses instead of ashes, Messages of joy instead of news of doom, a praising heart instead of a languid spirit. Rename them “Oaks of Righteousness” planted by God to display his glory.
Isaiah 61:1–5 MSG
– Reflection:
Who among us doesn’t need more goodness and more light? That’s a rhetorical question, of course. And when’s a better time to increase our intentionality about increasing our holiness than at the beginning of a new year? That’s rhetorical, too. God’s at work in us, every one of us, whether we can see it or not. He’s working to transform our character into the character of his son, our King, and savior, Jesus Christ. And he’ll continue working until the work is complete.
Where do we go from here?
Consider the past twelve months. What was good? Who was good for you? What worked? What wasn’t so good? What didn’t work? Now, commit to a simple, practical, achievable plan for bringing more of what’s been good and worked for you into the next twelve months and less of what wasn’t and didn’t.
Our Prayer for Today
Father, when we get intentional by looking at the choices we’ve been making, whom we’ve been spending time with, the practices we’ve been engaging in, and the experiences we’ve been enjoying. We get intentional by reflecting upon those choices and their results. We get intentional by deciding which relationships, practices, and experiences we’d like more of as we advance because they increase holiness and which we’d like less because they don’t. It is a blessing to have you in our lives. Amen.

– Scripture:
Healing Strength
Because of this decision, we don’t evaluate people by what they have or how they look. We looked at the Messiah that way once and got it all wrong, as you know. We certainly don’t look at him that way anymore. Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, and is created new. The old life is gone; a new life emerges! Look at it! All this comes from the God who settled the relationship between us and him and then called us to settle our relationships with each other. God put the world square with himself through the Messiah, giving the world a fresh start by offering forgiveness of sins. God has given us the task of telling everyone what he is doing. We’re Christ’s representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God’s work of making things right between them. We’re speaking for Christ himself now: Become friends with God; he’s already a friend with you.
2 Corinthians 5:16-20 MSG
– Reflection:
Not to be one of those parents who think everything revolves around their children, but when one of them is hurting or needs more attention than normal, that is when I kick into gear because something is very wrong at that point. Our third son, Noah, was playing in a basketball game for school when he fell; he couldn’t get up, trying to crawl with his arms off the floor. His mom texted me, telling me she thinks he twisted his foot or something. She goes to the bench to check, and he says his knee is hurting badly. Fast forward to today. This morning, he was sitting in the waiting room of a surgery center to get his knee fixed. He has been in great spirits up to this point but will need a lot of encouragement from us to get him going again. It has been a tough couple of weeks leading up to this point, but we are on the home stretch now. The road to recovery, just like Jesus created in us to be a new thing. Those doctors and nurses are helping my son with a new knee. He will need to learn to use it again just as we learn to live in Christ as he lives in us, too. Thanks for all of the love that we get to feel from everyone who replies back. Amen in the mornings when sending the Community Message out.
Where do we go from here?
We allow that new thing that has been created in us to grow and believe that we are new and move through the world doing the work that has been placed on our hearts after we have received Jesus as the King and head of our lives. Keep him first, and everything else will fall into its natural place. Don’t force life let it happen as it was meant to, when we force things they end up misshapen or deformed because of the unnatural pressure used to cause it to happen. Allow life to happen just as it is and where it is, and be fine with the outcome that you get.
Our Prayer for Today
Father, Thank you for family and friends who can help to lift up someone in need and bring the issue to bear with you in mind. Keep all of us safe in our travels this week, and for those having surgeries and procedures or are just sick themselves, please keep your hand on them and those performing the work you meant for them to do. It is in your power to create change in all of us at any moment of your choosing. We ask that you do that for all of as we need the strength you provide. It is in Jesus’ name that we can say. Amen.
